State of Mind is a series of five videos produced and directed by Karen Hanna Miller (Bamaga Productions’ Executive Producer) for the NRL’s community programs. Community programs aim to inspire healthier, happier living and to create conversations around difficult social issues.

This compelling, simply told video features league player and Ngiyampaa man Joel Thompson talking openly about his mental health concerns.

Another in the NRL’s inspirational community programs series, Women In League highlights some of the passionate and talented women playing, coaching and participating in rugby league throughout Australia today.

This video series was produced and directed by Karen Hanna Miller for the NRL. It paints an intimate portrait of Toowoomba Fillies player Samartha Leisha, a Ghangula Bulilee woman and mother of 5, whose goal is to represent Australia.

black&write! is a State Library of Qld initiative to support and encourage Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander writers and editorsby creating opportunities in publishing and the arts, while opening up avenues for cultural stories to be told.

This long-form explainer video weaves together interviews from many of the stakeholders, participants and beneficiaries in this ongoing national program.

Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dance Company / Social media promo

The Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dance Company is one of Queensland’s leading cultural groups, performing nationally and internationally on a regular basis. This short promotional video was designed for social media platforms.

With trying conditions during this shoot—weather affecting visual clarity—DOP Brendan Busby and Director Karen Hanna Miller asked the Nunukul Yuggera dancers to build a fire, which created the eerie ambience of smoke and embers.

Delvene Cockatoo-Collins is a Quandamooka artist with a retail store and studio on Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island) in south-east Queensland.

This video profile was created for Delvene to use online—on her website and other social media channels. It is simple, yet high quality and reflects the style of Delvene’s exquisite work and her connection to her culture.

Dreamworld / Sky Voyager / Welcome to Country

Sky Voyager at Dreamworld is the southern hemisphere’s first flying theatre.

As Dreamworld sits on Yugambeh country, a special Welcome to Country was written and produced in conjunction with Dreamworld, Gilimbaa and the Yugambah Museum. This is a short excerpt of a much longer video using traditional language, music, graphics and animation.

Mount Isa Rodeo / Gubbi Gubbi Dance Group / Welcome to Country

In 2020, the Mount Isa Rodeo switched to a virtual event, with competition streamed online across the world and to a function held on Gubbi Gubbi Country (Pine Rivers/the Sunshine Coast).

Bamaga Productions created the Rodeo’s Welcome to Country opening. Lyndon Davis, a direct descendent of the Gubbi Gubbi people, delivered the Welcome in traditional language and in English, also acknowledging the Kalkadoon people—the Traditional Custodians of the Mt Isa region.
